Resident Evil 5 demo on Dec. 5 says Famitsu

November 26th, 2008 · Comments Off

As if we weren’t already up to our eyeballs in zombies, the latest issue of Famitsu (as translated by IGN) states that Capcom plans to release a demo of Resident Evil 5 onto Xbox Live Marketplace on December 5*. The demo will include two playable stages and will include both offline and co-op modes. Caveat alert: as Famitsu is a Japanese magazine, the demo is currently only confirmed for Japan. We have our top men (top men) needling Capcom about the matter, so hopefully we’ll have a confirmed demo for other regions shortly.

*Yes, we realize that the enemies in Resident Evil 5 are not technically zombies, as established in Resident Evil 4 but, for all intents and purposes, they’re zombies, mkay? And furthermore, seriously, come on, we’re telling you that there is a Resident Evil 5 demo merely a week away and you’re arguing semantics? Really? That’s how you want to spend your time? Fine. Suits us. We don’t even care. Jerk.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix dragon punches XBLA

November 26th, 2008 · Comments Off

After its official announcement well over a year ago, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is finally landing on Xbox Live Arcade. For the always controversial price of 1200 Microsoft Points, you get a completely redrawn cast of characters and a while slew of reworked backgrounds. Let’s not forget the game comes with some revamped tunes as well. Oh, and of course there’s the (reportedly) improved netcode too, which will hopefully smooth out those online wrinkles.

Go get the trial game and tell us what you think. Was it worth the wait? For that matter, is it worth the scratch? Basically, is it the best around?

Street Fighter II HD pricing semi-announced

November 21st, 2008 · Comments Off

Now that we have a release date, Capcom decided it to be the opportune time to announce the pricing for remake Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. Deep breath, because it isn’t cheap.

According to Capcom’s John Dianomon, SSFIITHDR will release to the Playstation 3’s PSN for (drum roll) $14.99. True, this isn’t an official price announcement for Street Fighter on the XBLA, but unless Capcom decides to sell it for a different price on each network, we think it’s a safe bet that Street Fighter will cost Xbox gamers 1200 Microsoft points. A bit expensive, but re-drawing old sprites is no cheap task.

Dead Rising vs Dawn of the Dead lawsuit dismissed

November 19th, 2008 · Comments Off

Filed under:

That’s it folks. Show’s over. Move along. US Magistrate Judge Richard Seeborg has dismissed the case of MKR Group — the company that owns George Romero’s Dawn of the Dead film — versus Capcom — the publisher behind Dead Rising. MKR Group tried to make the case that Dead Rising is too similar to the film Dawn of the Dead, but Seeborg chose to grant Capcom’s motion for dismissal, which stated that the MKR had “not identified any similarity between Dead Rising and any protected element of Dawn of the Dead.” The motion elaborated that the noted similarities were “driven by the wholly unprotectable concept of humans battling zombies in a mall during a zombie outbreak.”

Several claims were made by MKR noting similarities between the game and the film, including the use of photojournalists as main characters and the fact that “Many of the zombies wear plaid shirts” (no, seriously). One interesting note in Capcom’s favor, the judge completely dismissed MKR’s claim that both works are a “parody of rampant consumerism.” He stated, “To the extent that Dead Rising may be deemed to posses a theme, it is confined to the killing of zombies” and discovering the cause of the outbreak. He concluded that the “social commentary” drawn by MKR from he film “appears totally absent from the combat focus found in Dead Rising.”

That’s all well and good for Capcom, apart from the fact that Dead Rising totally is about consumerism. So, we’re guessing that either Seeborg didn’t actually finish Dead Rising or, perhaps, he wasn’t paying attention. Judges these days. Sheesh.

Capcom’s screenshot reveals Street Fighter HD Remix release date

November 19th, 2008 · Comments Off

Either intentionally or unintentionally, Capcom announced (using a screenshot, no less) that November 26th is the release date for their upcoming XBLA release Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix.

Yes sir, in their press release regarding the new NXE Street Fighter “branded destination experience”, they included a screenshot that spills the release date beans. The screen grab (seen above) explicitly says that SSFIITHDR will be “Coming Nov 26 to Xbox LIVE Arcade” … pretty cut and dry, eh?

Street Fighter IV secures Feb. 17th release

November 14th, 2008 · Comments Off

Filed under:

Just a little while ago, Capcom made an OMG MEGATON announcement regarding Street Fighter IV, confirming that February 17th will be the game’s official release in North America and February 20th for our friends in Europe. That means Capcom’s Winter release promise has been fulfilled. That also means that the Gamestop rumored February 2nd release date was a tad bit off. No matter, February will be the month of Street Fighter and the month of total awesomeness!
