Skate 2 cements January 21, 2009 release

November 25th, 2008 · Comments Off

Filed under:

EA has announced that the previously nebulous “January” release for Skate 2 has been narrowed to a solid January 21, 2009 release for North America with a worldwide release to follow on January 23. The company also announced that it will be releasing a new Graphics Creator web application in December that will allow users to create custom designs for in-game clothing used in Skate 2 (you mean VelocityGirl’s dream is finally a reality?). Finally, EA announced that those who pre-order the game will receive an exclusive Throwback Pack which includes “retro clothing, accessories and gestures.” We’ll take the Skate or Die T-shirt, EA, but you can keep the tie-ye, mkay?

Dead Space Demo dismembers XBLM

November 25th, 2008 · Comments Off

We realize that many of our readers have long since forgotten Halloween — its memory having been replaced by slavering thoughts of turkey — but that doesn’t mean we have to forget about survival horror. In an effort to remind us — and perhaps to push a few more copies out the door — EA has released a demo for Dead Space onto the Xbox Live Marketplace (sorry, Gold members only, for now). The demo is vaguely referred to as a “Dismemberment Demo” and, frankly, we haven’t the foggiest idea what that’s about. And hey, check this out, thanks to the new online Marketplace at Xbox.com, we can do this:

Fight Night Round 4 debuts at 2008 VGAs

November 21st, 2008 · Comments Off

Filed under:

Hey you! Yes, you, the fashionable gamer over there. Would you like to learn about Fight Night Round 4 (which won’t be made by the studio that made Round 3, incidentally)? Would you like to see the very first glimpse of the game (possibly including Mike Tyson)? Well, according to a new teaser trailer (embedded after the break), you can see exactly that during the Spike Video Game Awards on December 14 at 9:00pm Eastern. Looks like you’d better clear your calendar right now. Or, you know, you could just wait until the next day when the footage will be all over the internet. It’s your call, really.

Dead Space DLC uses stasis on your wallet

November 13th, 2008 · Comments Off

Hey kids, just a quick reminder that a metric ton of DLC for Dead Space has been released to the Xbox Live Marketplace today. What kind of DLC you ask? Well, if some random skins and special suits and upgraded weapons suit your fancy, you’re in luck. Actually, let us take that back. You’re in luck if you like all those things and you’d like to pay for them. Some of the items are merely skins, while others will net you firearms with extra speed or power or fully upgraded suits. There’s also a brand new gun up for download as well.

Technically, we suppose these aren’t merely downloadable cheats, but they’re pretty close. Find a full list of the new content after the break.

Drum roll, please: Original Rock Band bundle gets a price cut

November 13th, 2008 · Comments Off

Attention virtual rock and rollers, Harmonix has sent word that the original Rock Band bundle (as in not Rock Band 2) has received a price cut just in time for the holidays. The Xbox 360 version of the bundle has seen a $30 price cut, knocking the official price down to $140. Sure, you might not get the fancy self-calibrating guitar, or the new drums, but it’s a significant savings over the $190 Rock Band 2 bundle. It’s worth noting that Amazon actually has the bundle for $120, which means you could grab the Rock Band 1 bundle and a copy of Rock Band 2 for less than the cost of the Rock Band 2 bundle. That’s definitely our suggestion if your goal this holiday is to be the coolest parent / grandparent / uncle / aunt / total stranger on the block.
